Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley
Serving Wood County, WV and Washington County, OH
We partner with individuals and families willing to provide sweat equity hours on their own and others’ houses and make an affordable monthly payment on a no-interest mortgage loan.
Habitat for Humanity is an international Christian ministry that believes all people deserve a simple, decent, affordable place to live, working toward eliminating inadequate housing in Wood County, West Virginia, and Washington County, Ohio.
Wood County Habitat for Humanity started in the early 1990s and merged with Washington County Habitat for Humanity in the spring of 2016 to form what is now known as Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
In the past 30 years, the organization and its volunteers have built more than one hundred homes and served over 500 individuals with permanent, stable housing.
With a goal to build a minimum of five homes annually, the organization uses volunteers, corporate sponsors, and dedicated team members to keep moving toward its mission to put God’s love into action and bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
Habitat for Humanity International
Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity found its earliest inspirations as a grassroots movement on an interracial community farm in south Georgia. Since its founding in 1976, the Christian housing organization has grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in local communities across all 50 states in the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand-up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage.
Habitat affiliates are independent, nonprofit organizations organized by local citizens and operate with local boards and volunteers. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and faith-based, corporate, and individual donors provide the money, materials, and labor necessary to build Habitat homes.
As an affiliate of an international organization, our local Habitat is able to capitalize on additional resources that benefit our entire community.
This translates to more local families in stable and decent housing – more kids eating breakfast at their own kitchen table.

Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat for Humanity welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.
